How we verify tools
Every listing on Toolocate comes from visiting the tool itself, and every listing is re-checked each week.
What we check
- The website loads, is a real product, and uses AI in a meaningful way.
- What it does, its main features, who it's for, its plans and prices, and whether there is a free option.
- Where it runs (web, desktop, mobile, extensions) and whether agents can use it through an MCP server, an API or a CLI.
How listings are written
We read each tool's own website and write the listing in our own words. An AI model helps us draft and structure it from what the site says — features, plans and answers to common questions are only included when the website states them. Listings are spot-checked by a person. We don't copy descriptions from other directories, and we don't accept payment for a better review.
Other languages
Listings in other languages are not word-for-word translations. An AI model writes each one directly in that language from the same facts we verified, keeping product names, plan names and prices as they are; a person spot-checks them. A tool only appears in a language once its listing there is complete.
Weekly re-checks
Every listed tool is opened again every week. When pricing, features, platforms or agent access change, we update the listing and its “last verified” date. Tools that stop working are removed.
How tools are ordered
Lists are sorted by how well known a tool is; among equally well-known tools, by how popular the tool's website is in the public Chrome UX Report data (CC BY 4.0), then by name. Editor's picks are chosen by us. Sponsored placements are always labeled and never change a tool's position in a list.
What we don't list
Tools that are harmful, illegal, deceptive or sexually explicit — including "undress" apps, impersonation and malware.
Sponsored placements
Sponsored slots are always labeled "Ad" and never change how a tool is described or ranked. Toolocate is made by the same team as Waper, which is listed like any other tool and marked as ours.
For developers and AI agents
The same listings are available as data: a read-only JSON API at https://api.toolocate.com/v1/tools (search and filters, tool details, alternatives, categories) and an MCP server at https://api.toolocate.com/mcp that AI assistants can connect to. Both are free and rate limited; when you use a listing, link to its page on Toolocate.
